Red Chair Re-Do

Happy Monday!!! I hope all of you had a fabulous, relaxing weekend.

My bathroom is finished being tiled!! Woohoo! It is “amazingly amazing”.  Brandon (my s-in-law) did a great job and put up with me changing just a few little tiny things…like the back splash on the back of the vanity (I know he was muttering under his breath…something about a m-in-law who is a pain in the %@#*) :-).  I had planned on showing pictures, but I think I’ll keep you in suspense until it’s completely done and do a big UNVEILING.  Then you will want to keep coming back! ha! Just kidding (about the coming back…but I would like that).

So here is a little red chair that I had so much fun re-doing.  I got 2 of these chairs for $14.50 at AMVets – $7.25 each! I did them both different, and will be done with the 2nd one next week.

I apologize for these pics in advance. Not my best shots…I can’t do anything under pressure.  I was in a hurry…as usual it seems these days…me always fighting the clock….that will be a different post that will be filed under RAMBLINGS. Ha!

Here is what the chair looked like before:

And here is the After:

What do you think? Love the Red?

Here is a few up close and personals 🙂

I wiped down the chairs, filled in a few cracks with a wood filler, sanded, and painted the chair with Annie Sloan’s Emperor’s Silk (red).  It took 3 coats to cover it thoroughly (you know how that red is…and Annie’s is no different).  Next, I distressed (didn’t do a lot of it) and then applied clear wax, buffed and applied a very light coat of dark wax.  Still needs to be buffed, but wanted the waxes to get good and hard.

What am I going to do with it? I have no idea.  Perhaps sell it.  It’s gonna be hard to get rid of.

I want to ask everyone a quick question – I saw a Union Jack dresser on someone’s blog but it was done in an olive green, cream colors, maybe brown?  Does anyone remember seeing it? Please email me or comment to me if you know.  Thank you!

Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow to see the highlights I will be posting from last week’s #1 Linky Party.  Can’t wait to see what everyone shares at this weeks #2 Linky Party starting tomorrow (Tuesday) at “Turning the Daunting into the Do-able” right here on Project Queen.

  1. Hello Mandy,
Love the red chairs – they look wonderful. I did the very same thing a little while back to two chairs I purchased at an estate sale – using the same Emperor’s Silk – I just love that color! I too had to do 3 coats – I am very pleased and the best part is my husband loves them too!
Turning him over to the painted side! 🙂

  4. I love the shade of red…so pretty 🙂

  5. LOVE the red. Great makeover. I’m excited to see what you’re doing with the second one.

  6. I was wondering if you were using Annie Sloan paint (the red). It turned out very nice. After trying some Old White on a couple of rungs on one of my chairs, I didn’t care for the look of it so I sanded it (by hand) and sanded and sanded until I had sanded all the chairs and the base. I love the look of how it turned out. The chairs had an Old White color to start with so it came through. I will be waxing tonight first with the clear and wait a day or so and then a bit of dark. I read on Annie’s website (I think that is where I read this) to put the wax in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before you use it.It makes it easier to use.

  14. I love the red I would have bought that chair but I found something out today. Although I have great ideas for make overs, I have neither the time or patience to do so. I tried to redo a bench. It is sitting in my back yard with a crappy paint job. Hopefully my hubby can fix it.

  15. This is such a great idea-the results are wonderful! Thanks for linking this post to my Pinning & Singing party. I have just linked up to your party too!
