According to the people at Pantone (a global authority on color for the design industries), the reddish orange Tangerine Tango builds upon last year’s Honeysuckle (the color chosen for 2011). Honeysuckle encouraged us to face our troubles with verve and vigor while Tangerine Tango gives us the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. The tangerine tango is labeled as “sophisticated, but at the same time seductive.” It’s an orange with a lot of depth to it.
Energize interior spaces with Tangerine Tango patterned home accessories. Pillows, bedspreads and tabletop accessories in this high-impact hue add spice to any room. Or incorporate Tangerine Tango appliances and personal electronics for an unexpected pop of color. Looking for an inexpensive way to perk up your home? Paint a wall in Tangerine Tango for a dynamic burst of energy in the kitchen, entryway or hallway.
Maryland-based interior designer Samantha Friedman says the color’s recent spike in popularity can be traced to its versatility. She calls the shade “fresh and fun, but not overly feminine.”

Friedman, who transformed a teenage girl’s room (above) using Duralee fabric, recommends starting small. Pillows, throws, and accessories are the quickest way to update a room. But tread lightly, because one too many additions can have your home resembling a radioactive pumpkin. “The color has a lot of energy, so it needs to be toned down with neutrals and patterns,” she says. “It’s also important to spread it evenly throughout the space. You don’t want to oversaturate one area with the color.”
For a touch of glamour, Friedman suggests pairing Tangerine Tango with hints of gold, like shimmery picture frames, hardware, or trims. And “don’t be afraid to try it with new combinations,” she says.
Here’s a fun look back at the colors named in previous years:
2008: Blue Iris
2007: Chili Pepper
I’ve had this article written for quite sometime now. This morning in our Fresno Bee there was an article on the “Tangerine Scene”. So I thought it was time to post this! I have to say, that ever since I learned that this is the new color for 2012, I see it everwhere….and Michael Kohrs has some pretty incredible leather purses in this color!!!! Just sayin’.
Might I add that it’s already on Pinterest?
If so, I want to hear about it! We ALL do!!!!
Okay, back to working on my 2012 Resolution List.
