Link Party #22 Highlights – “Turning the Daunting Into the Do-able”

Goodness! Did we ever have some clever link ups this past week!  I love to see what people are doing between holiday decorating…. the REAL stuff, instead of holiday crafts.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the holiday crafts…. just like to get down to the “nitty-gritty” of DIY, every day stuff!

Thank you again everyone for sharing at “Turning the Daunting Into the Do-able” Party!

Emily from 52 Mantels shared this amazing Butterfinger Trifle.

Oh goodness, this looks so YUMMY!
PRETTY and YUMMY and EASY…
It doesn’t get any better than that does it?
Okay, if it was CALORIE FREE it would be the bee’s knee’s!

What a GREAT idea!
Endless possibilities here!

Marilyn from 4 You With Love needed to re-do the flooring in her craft area of her 1888 house.  How did she do it?  With paper bags!  It’s a Paper Bag Floor!  She has an easy to follow tutorial explaining how she did it.

Love how this turned out.
Looks alot like an Acid Floor Wash, but with lots of cracks (which in my humble opinion is even better)
OH, SO CLEVER!!!!

4 You With Love

Alyssa from What’s Cooking Love made these delicious Cinnamon Roll Donuts.

She made these out of Refrigerator Biscuits.
No need to work with YEAST!

Kitchen Silhouettes

Guess what??? I’m not scared of my Cameo Silhouette machine anymore!!!

Yay!!! I’m sooo proud of myself :-).

Here is a super easy project I did for my daughter when we updated her kitchen last week.

Kitchen Update – click HERE.

I found white plates in a box that was labeled “white plates” in the back of my closet that I had completely forgotten about!

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them… Kitchen Silhouettes for my daughter’s kitchen “up-do”.

I hooked up my Cameo Silhouette and chose the images I wanted and downloaded them to the Silhouette.

I measured the surface area on the plate where I wanted my image to go and then altered the image to fit.

I inserted my black glossy vinyl into the machine and pushed “send” and the Cameo Silhouette kicked into gear and cut out the images.

I then applied them to the plates.  Simple as that!

Here they are on the wall.

I used Disc Hangers to hang them.  This is the first time that I have ever used this product.  I knew that I didn’t want to hang them with the usual plate hanging wire.  I purchased them at Hobby Lobby.  I love these and will definitely never hang a plate with a wire hanger again.

You can see in the picture where I cut them to fit the plates.   It worked perfectly.

Here is another one that hasn’t gotten hung yet.  Tracie’s looking for a special spot :-).

These plates were so much fun and I ♥ my Cameo Silhouette!

Tracie’s Updated Kitchen

My daughter, Tracie, and her family (husband and 4 boys) moved into a new home a few weeks ago.  She wanted to do an update to her kitchen and of course I volunteered!

I headed to Sacramento for a little bit of DIY happiness… we had a great time.  A lot of work, but a lot of fun.

This is what it looked like when I arrived on Monday…

and this is what it looked like on Thursday evening…

We had a chandelier in our garage that had been removed from one of our apartments.  I spray painted it black and purchased a ceiling medallion and spray painted that black  too. Curtains were made for the dining room and the kitchen.

The walls were painted with Valspar’s Bella Mint.  Gorgeous color!  So fresh and clean looking.

A new mat was purchased for the kitchen sink and I found the fork, knife and spoon at Hobby Lobby – 50% off.

I had some plates that I have had for years.  I made some fun silhouettes using my Cameo Silhouette and put them on the plates.

I need to insert here… I’m not afraid of it anymore!!!!

Here’s a close up of the silhouette plates.  These were so much fun to make.

We hung the plates using the Disc Hangers.  These are amazing.  I was able to cut them to fit the plates and “go around the bumps”.  They are very easy to apply to the plates and hang.  I purchased the Disc Hangers at Hobby Lobby.  I found them in the picture hanging department

Here is a close up of the medallion.  It really made an impact in the room.

This picture makes the chandelier look crooked, but I promise you it’s not!!!

I made her a big bulletin board.  See the chalk holder on the bottom right hand corner? Just an upside down handle pull.
We didn’t have any chalk at the time to put in it!
A small detail that was forgotten :-).

We also made a bulletin board that we put in the  hallway.  Ugh, looks like a ribbon slipped on the right hand side…. that stuff drives me crazy to look at.  I guess I’ll head back to Sacramento (3 hour drive) to fix it ASAP!!! ha!  You have know idea how tempting it is for me to do that in order to make this bulletin board perfect.  I’m a sick woman…..

I repainted and distressed their old kitchen bench.  I didn’t even sand it down OR prime it.  I used a paint called “Caromal Colours” in Peppercorn, with their toner over the top and then waxed it.  Love this stuff.  Perfect shade of black and SO easy to use.

So what do you think?  Tracie and Brandon love it and the boys say, “It starting to look like Nana’s house”… which I’m taking as a compliment!

Here are some pics that were going on in the sidelines all week…..

Be sure you come back tomorrow night  – I’ll have Highlights from #22 Link Party posted and #23 Link Party will begin!

Chocolate Pudding Cake

I’m working very hard in Sacramento getting my daughter’s kitchen in shape and decorated!!! I’m also enjoying my four grandsons while I’m painting, sanding, and sewing.  Doesn’t get much better than that.  I’ll be here for a few more days…. I’ll have a post soon to show you what I’ve been doing.

In the mean time, Tracie (my daughter) made a quick and yummy cake.  It is so simple you can even make it when your kitchen is torn apart!

Chocolate Pudding Cake

Ingredients:

1 box Yellow Cake Mix
(2) 4oz Cook and Serve Chocolate Pudding (not the instant)
1 cup Powered Sugar
4 cups milk
2 Tbl Butter

Step 1:  Bake Yellow Cake according to directions on the box.

Step 2:  When cake comes out of the oven, poke holes in the cake with the end of a wooden spoon.

Step 3: In a sauce pan, melt butter.  Add milk and mix in pudding and the powered sugar.  Bring to a boil.

Step 4: Pour pudding over warm cake.

Step 5: Smooth pudding over the cake.

Step 6: Refrigerate cake for at least 4 hours before serving.

Up close and personal…. see how the pudding fills the holes in the cake?

YUM!!!!

Serve with a dollop of whip cream.

ENJOY!!!

Kellie from Nest of Posies has graciously allowed me to offer my readers a giveaway with an item from her store!

It turned out really cute.

Quick Bulletin Board Project

My daughter, Madison, called last week and said, “Mom I need to come home this weekend because I have some crafts to make for my Sorority Sister…. and since you have a glue gun and stuff…” Yea, I knew how it was going to go… I was going to be making crafts and Madison was going to be watching me!

One of the items she wanted to make was a bulletin board.  We made a quick trip to Joanne’s for some fabric, batting, nail heads, ribbon, bulletin board and “things we glued to the top of the tack” (I have no idea what you call them!) ha!

This was so simple… I forgot to take pictures as we were making it.

Instructions:
1.  Lay out your fabric and your batting (face down). Fabric first, then batting.
2.  Lay your board over the fabric and batting (front face down).
3.  Pull tightly and staple fabric and batting to the back of the bulletin board.
4.  Trim fabric and batting on the back of the board.
5.  Lay out ribbons and staple them to the back of the board.
6.  Stable where ribbons cross.
7.  Push in a nail head right next to the staple so the staple does not show.
8.  Add a ribbon to the top to hang.
9.  Using a hot glue gun, glue an “imbellishment” (is that what you call them???) to the top of a tack.

That’s it!

Up Close and Personal

My “embellishments” that I hot glued to the top of the tacks.

Miss Madison did help :-).

Guess what else is going on??? I’m having another giveaway starting this week!!!!

You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!!

Be sure to stop back by because you definitely won’t want to miss it!!!!
