Cameo Silhouette – The Mr. and Mrs.

I finally got up the nerve to use my Cameo Silhouette…. yes, I was scared of it.  It stayed in the box for two days.  I thought, “This is silly, just take it out of the box and make something!”  So I took it out of the box, set it up on my dining room table and read the instructions.  I hooked it up to my computer and…. didn’t make anything.  It was so intimidating!!!! I just could not believe that this thing could work it’s magic like the instructions say!  Really?  That easy?  I decided to wait until the next day and THEN I would try it.

I was well rested the next day, my chores were done.  I had no excuses.  I sat down at the computer (silhouette was still hooked up to my computer)…. read the directions again and then I dove in…. I knew what I wanted to make…I’d seen it on a blog (don’t remember where – let me know and I will give credit to that blog!).

First, I downloaded a font that I liked (it was super easy) and then I typed what I wanted, loaded up my vinyl and pushed the print button.  Then I waited and prayed I did it right…. and then the machine kicked into gear….and I waited…. and it worked!!! Here is what I made!

I traced the glass from the frame (both frames were thrift store cheap frames) onto some cream colored card stock that I had.  Then I followed the directions on how to put the vinyl onto the card stock.  I reassembled the frames and I was done!

For now, these are going to be going on my husband’s and my night stand.  Once we get our new nightstands and bedside lamps, my plan is to hang them on the wall (between the lamp and the bed).

I’m thrilled with how my new Cameo Silhouette works!
I already have a plan for the next project!!!!

I’m linking up to these awesome parties.

Link Party #16 Highlights – “Turning the Daunting Into the Do-able”

Welcome to Link Party #16 Highlights!

I’m amazed at how many people linked up projects this week!  Where in the world are you guys getting all the energy and creativity after the holidays? Please tell me, because I really, really need some!  My creativity went right out the door with 2011!  I’m praying that I get it back…. I haven’t linked up to any link parties because I have nothing!  Okay, I do have a little something that I made on my new Silhouette Cameo which I will be showing you soon!

So let’s start the highlights out with some re-do and up-do furniture!

Bethany from Pitter and Glink purchased a $2 ugly brown bookshelf from a thrift store and check out what she did to it!

Love the media she used to decorate the back of the shelf.

While we are talkin’ book shelves, look what Emily from Emily’s Upcycled Furniture created with drawers.

I love the cleverness of this! So easy, cheap and
wouldn’t it be cute in a child’s room?
I guess I should give credit where credit is due….
Emily came up with the idea :-)…
But Mrs. Emily put them together and painted them and did a fabulous job!

Kim from Made In A Day made this awesome Fabric Nail Head Cabinet from a cabinet she already had.

She saw a similar cabinet in a store window and knew that she could replicate it very easily…
Love the fabric Kim AND the nail heads.

Made in a Day

This next project that Kim (another Kim) from Maidendshade created for a baby shower just makes me smile!

Is this the cutest thing you ever did see???
Doesn’t it make you smile??? 🙂 🙂
She has a great tutorial to show you how she did it.
Wish I had a baby shower coming up….I’d make it!

Maiden D'Shade

I’m lovin’ this next one.  Megan from Miss Madison’s Charmed Life talked her husband into helping her make a
Tufted Rhinestone Headboard for their master bedroom.
I love the way it turned out.
Head over to her blog for an easy to follow tutorial.

Miss Madison’s Charmed Life

Next up is the talented Andrea from The Cottage Market.  She made these Pottery Barn Knock-Off Crystal Candles.

They are so pretty and elegant and very easy to make!

This next one is so sweet…Maysem from Odetoinspiration made this cute little girl’s outfit.  She calls it Silhouette and Ruffles.

How about a little food?  Jessica from O-Alouette shared the recipe for these Chicken Pockets.

These looked so good to me and definitely a crowd pleaser for the family.
Quick and easy too!

Thanks so much everyone for linking up your awesome projects!

God And A Diet

Did that header get your attention?  You’re wondering what God has to do with a diet? Stick with me while a share with you what I’m doing for ONE of my 2012 Resolutions.

If you read my “About Me” you’ll see that I shared with the world (yikes) that I have been on a diet my whole life.  This has been an ongoing battle for me. High blood pressure, heart disease and cancer runs in my family.  I lost my father 6 years ago due to complications from Diabetes Type 2. I look back now and understand that my father used food to make him happy.  He ate when he was sad, anxious, and angry.  I do the same thing.

Food is my idol.

Every diet I’ve ever been on I say, “Okay, this is it…I’m going to do it this time.”  OR  “Well I’ll just have this (insert sugar/flour item) and then I’ll start on Monday.”  Does this sound like you?  Do you lose the weight and then find yourself going back to the same terrible habits and before you know it the weight is back?

After  years of doing this, it dawned on me today that I have relied on MYSELF to win the battle over food…I won’t win this battle by myself…  So now, I’m turning to God.  I cannot rely on my husband to do it, my kids to do it, or my mother to do it.  I can’t do it.  But, I believe that God can.

Is my issues with food something that will just go away? Of course not.  I will have to live with it the rest of my life.  Will it be drudgery?  I sure hope not.  I’m praying it will be kind of like when I quit smoking.  It got easier over time….and I thought less of lighting up that cigarette and pretty soon I liked how I felt.  FREE from something controlling me.  FREE from knowing that every time I lit that cigarette I was harming my body.  Aren’t I doing that with food?  It’s definitely controlling me  and most definitely harming me.

Have you heard of the book “Made to Crave” written by Lysa Terkeurst?

Lysa is the President of Proverbs 31 Ministries.  She is an amazing and funny speaker.  Guess what? She has a battle with food.  Guess what? She has conquered the battle!

Lysa Terkeurst

Lysa writes, ” So, the cycle continued day after day, week after week, year after year.  A whole lifetime could be spent making excuses, giving in, feeling guilty, resolving to do better, mentally beating myself up for not sticking to my resolve, feeling like a failure and then resigning myself to the fact that things can’t change.”

Today, Lysa can say that she has lost her weight.  But most importantly she says her soul feels free. She is amazed that she ever tried to satisfy her taste buds over satisfying her desire to break free from all the guilt, all the destruction, all the defeat.

Link Party #15 Highlights – “Turning the Daunting Into the Do-able”

Welcome to Link Party #15 Highlights – “Turning the Daunting Into the Do-able”

I’m soooo thankful to be back into a NORMAL routine.  Aren’t you????

I’m a little late tonight getting the highlights posted.  My BFF and I opened a storage unit  and we decided to get some stuff moved over…but you know how that goes.  We couldn’t just do that….oh no, we started moving furniture around in her house and decorating! Ha!

Without further ado…..

Let’s start with a ♥Valentine’s Day♥ theme since it will be here before you know it!

The Tip Garden has this wonderful tradition in their home – A Family Valentine’s Advent which encourages their family to show love for one another.  I love this idea!  You have to start it on February 1st, so you bet get over to the Tip Garden so you’ll know how to set the stage for the month of February.

My kids would have loved this!

Since we are all in an organizing mood I thought it most appropriate to feature these Decorative Storage Bins that Mari from Inspired By Family Magazine made.

Simple, cute and super easy.

Have you ever seen a Hopscotch Quilt? Sunni from Love Affair With My Brother made one!

How FUN IS THIS?????

love affair

Connie from the Crafterbug made this YUMMY Pillsbury Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread.

Okay, this bread literally makes my mouth water just looking at the picture.
Good thing it’s not in my house right now because I would blow my diet and not think twice!

Mallory and Savannah from Classy Clutter made this adorable Headboard.

Love the colors.  So girly :-).

Shan from Family Brings Joy shared this great Chore Chart System that she has been using to motivate her kids to work.

Head on over to Shan’s blog to find out how this works.
She has a great system! It’s like playing a game!

This next project shared by Lori from Bleak Unique just AMAZED ME!  She labeled it “Turquoise and Jewels”.

This is from one of those old cane back rocking chairs!!!
I wish that my mind worked more like this.
You’re BRILLIANT Lori!

Last, but definitely not least is this yummy Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla that Alyssa from What’s Cooking Love made.

This looks so delicious. I ♥ blue cheese and so does my family.
This is a quick and easy dinner!
Add a salad and you’re good to go!

What's Cooking, Love?

Thank you so much everyone for linking up your amazing projects! I didn’t have to DELETE a single Christmas project either!
Yay! That makes me happy :-).

If you were featured, you are most welcome to grab a feature button! You can find the code in the right hand column.

I Hit the Jackpot!!!!

Last Friday, I went with some friends to one of the indian casino’s that is about a 30 minute drive from our house.  We go about once a month, have dinner, a few drinks and then play the slots for a few hours and head home.  Sometimes, I come home ahead with some extra $ in my pocket, but MOST times I come home with LESS $ in my pocket.

Guess what friends? This week, I came home with a whole lotta $ in my pocket!!! In fact, I won a jackpot of $1,600.00!!!!!!! Unbelievable.  I about had a heart attack.  I got 8 Quick Hits!

I don’t think it really hit me how much $ that was until the next morning when I was lying in bed… and started thinking about what I’d like to buy…hmmm….. I could buy new nightstands, a new dresser….I got out of bed, grabbed my coffee, sat in front of my computer and promptly purchased a…

Cameo Silhouette!!!!!

Woot! Woot!

Next, I purchased…

Adobe Photoshop Elements 10

I splurged and had everything shipped quickly.

I cannot wait to play with all of my new toys!!!

The last thing I want to purchase is a new hard drive to back up all of my computer stuff (I have a Mac).

Any suggestions????

Kind Hearted Blogger’s Pledge

Have you taken the Kind Hearted Blogger Pledge?

I came upon a blog this morning called Em, Jay and Me.  It’s a wonderful blog written by Jo-Annie from Honolulu, Hawaii.

Back in July of 2010 she had an incident with blogging that actually made her want to quit.  In other words, someone stole the joy from something she found the joy in.  Has this ever happened to you? What did you do? Ignore it? Retaliate? Quit? Get even?

I’m thinking we all need to take the Kind Hearted Blogger Pledge.

Don’t you agree?

  • create, inspire, and admire rather than compete with fellow bloggers
  • be understanding of each other– in the blogging community, as well as in the world
  • stay away from internet/blogging bullying
  • speak my opinion freely, while still being mindful of other’s feelings– be tactful.
  • make an effort–no matter how big or small the gesture, to spread kindness or joy to others
  • acknowledge that I will make mistakes, (I am only human) but remember to learn from them
  • know that at times I will post about the negative stuff in life, and maybe even some complaining (I am only human) but I will always follow up with something happy/positive too.
  • believe that this world is a good place, filled with good people.

So what do you think? Can you make the pledge?

If you decide to make the pledge,

I’d love it if you left a comment!

When you’re finished, paste this button on your blog for all to see.

<a href=”” target=”_blank”><img src=”” /></a>

Let’s see if we can get Jo-Annie’s Campaign  fired up again!

Please take a minute and visit her blog and leave her a comment too.

emjayWhat a great way to start the New Year!
